To call Reid Speed a legend would be an understatement; she is the quintessential DJ empress, taking control of any bass-craving dance floor within moments. Originally a mainstay in New York City, Reid began to fly the flag of the underground sounds of 2-step (UK Garage) and speed garage, propelling herself to DJing throughout the city. Within that time, she began amassing residencies for heralded events thrown by Stuck On Earth, Direct Drive and Camouflage. Reid also was responsible for bringing some of garage’s top-tier talent, like MJ Cole and Stanton Warriors, across the Atlantic to play alongside her. Simultaneously, Reid began to produce her own material and was signed to Breakbeat Science in 2001, releasing her first album Resonance, a mix that was acclaimed by listeners worldwide.
After gaining massive recognition in the NY scene, Reid moved to LA and founded Play Me and Play Me Too Records, two labels that have been staples on the Beatport charts since 2010. While she’s been DJing and releasing more tunes than one can count, she’s also helped launch the careers of up-and-comers such as Bare, Figure, J. Rabbit, and Run DMT, just to name a few. Touring worldwide and amassing acclaim for her eclectic DJ sets, Reid Speed’s only rule within the music she plays is the presence of bass; it’s the reason she’s been going at it for this long, and she is going stronger than ever before.
